I am currently serving as the Group Sales Manager for the Colorado Avalanche’s ticket sales department. A Massachusetts native and the granddaughter of two baseball scouts, sports has always been a huge part of my life. I was instrumental in the development of DWSC, coordinating initial responsibilities and events beginning in March of this year. I have spent 11 seasons with professional sports in four major leagues (NHL, NFL, NBA, MLB) in sales roles. I moved to Denver in October 2019 with the vision of creating a place for women in sport and events to network, gather and share best practices in one of the best sports cities in the country. I have been both an active member of WISE national, as well as WISE Boston.

Years of efforts from other extraordinary Denver women have led us to this collaborative effort, and I’m so excited to see it evolve!

I help small business owners solve their internal operations frustrations, with the goal of saving them time and money. I take the time to get to know my clients and then I do the dirty work of identifying gaps, researching solutions and implementing systems that save small businesses thousands a year.

Most recently:

- Architectural Photographer: Converted customer relationship and project management to one platform, saving $3,000/year, and automated workflows saving four hours of effort per client.

- 3rd Party Billing Company: Developed a SharePoint database to securely store data and eliminate redundant efforts (via former Excel spreadsheet); employee time-savings of 150 hours / year.

- Yoga Practice: Managed and supported custom website development with scheduling, payment, communication, and video library; saving 200 hours of effort / year.

Areas of expertise include analysis, gap identification, and solution development for: Internal management systems; Operations processes and workflows; Written policies and procedures; Internal communications; Knowledge transfer and training; Workshop facilitation.

When I'm not working, you can find me in the mountains, skiing with my husband, on a trip in our 1977 camper, or hiking with our darling mutt Emi (yes, she would love to meet you, too).

Lara’s passion for creating memorable experiences for event attendees, coupled with meeting the strategic goals of corporations, brands and non-profit organizations, is at the core of what drives Smedley Events’ success.

Smedley Events has developed a clientele across Colorado and Texas working with organizations in the technology and non-profit sectors, conference and meeting industry, as well as continuing relationships in the sports & entertainment space.

Beyond client work Smedley Events produces its own events centered around purposeful conversation and building community. In 2018 Smedley Events launched the Small Great Event Series, a unique series of events created with the purpose of bringing people together through highly personalized experiences. Each event is thoughtfully designed and kept small to provide deeper meaning for guests while fostering memorable connections and self-discovery.

In 2019, Smedley Events launched purposeful conversation events with the Sunset Dinner Experience. The Sunset Dinner Experience brings together culinary and event experts for a thoughtfully curated evening of connection in a scenic oasis at Sumac Hill Farm in Centennial, Colorado. Guests are treated to a multi-course meal and beverage pairings while enjoying conversation with friends new and old in a Jeffersonian style dining experience. The evening is capped off with a picturesque view of a Colorado sunset cascading over Mount Evans. After a successful launch Smedley Events has taken this concept on the road with Better Together Dinners that brings the purposeful conversation model into people’s homes and places of business while providing this meaningful event in a more accessible way.

Smedley Events' community focused approach comes from Lara's support and involvement in organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, San Antonio Pets Alive, Polka Dot Powerhouse, Delta Zeta, Impact Denver and Visit Denver.

Born and raised in Denver, Lara graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in Communications and Marketing. She lives on her family’s fourth generation conservation property in Centennial, Colorado.

While obtaining her business degree at the University of Nebraska Madison gained a passion for small businesses. Eventually minoring in entrepreneurship, management, and advertising/public relations, she used her knowledge to become a well connect member of the university’s Center for Entrepreneurship. Landing her jobs as social media manager for a regional grocery store chain, as well as marketing manager for several small franchises in the area, while still in college. Madison’s tenacity and creativity also landed her the Innovation Award while attending the university.

After college Madison went to corporate route, getting jobs at the #2 trucking company, where she managed customer relations, and logisitics for some of their major customers. After leaving she worked at a Fortune 150 transportation company, where in 8 short months rose to the ranks of managing their #2 customer with 90% on time ratings across the board. Wanting different experience she then head into food manufacturing, working for another Fortune 500 company where she worked in procurement, supply chain, contract manufacturing, and specialized efficiency and environmental projects.

Growing tired of the unpassionate corporate life, Madison wanted to get back to her roots and help build small businesses again. With her experience working with several Fortune 500 companies she learned strategies and efficiencies that small businesses could also utilize in their operations as well. Forming this company to help bridge the gap between small business and large business strategies and processes to help grow and set themselves apart in the market.
