What does it mean to be a great leader?

In order to be a great leader in any industry you should have the experience to make you a competent leader to others.

It's also important to have the ability to relate to any and everyone and come from a place of love. You can’t be a leader and carry a lot of hate in your heart.

It’s important to have a “no fail attitude” and always stay on the positive side of things. Always understand that whatever you’re working towards won’t always happen off the bat. Be persistent.

Do you feel you're a leader? Why or why not?

In a sense I am. For my clients I am definitely a leader to them. I’m the person they look to when they’re having issues, or troubles on their fitness journey. I like to say that “I’m the person that’s going to believe in you when you don’t believe in yourself.”

And the role I play is so important because in one single day a person can go half the day feeling self-doubt and the other half feeling confident. I'm there to help them stay in the positive as much as possible.

Tell us about a time when you took the lead.

I started my own personal training business in January 2013. January is slow time for personal trainers, so the person I was working for was extremely stressed about his business and it made me stressed as well.

I said to him “I can see that having me employed here is really stressing you out, so I will start my own business.” That took a load off of him, so he helped me get started. He allowed me to keep the clients that I had been working with and the rest was history.
