![]() Written by Theresa Bright Here at WOD we love to get together and collaborate. Sharing professional and life experiences in a safe place is a great way to learn and grow, especially when looking at how to define success. Success can mean different things for different people. In order to achieve success, it's important to know what that means for you. Have you thought about what success is for your path? Many times we go through our daily life, thinking about the project that's due next week and the steps that are needed to bring it to fruition. We want to do that project well, and that's success right? But it's also important to take a step back and think about your success in the long term. By doing this, it allows you to make sure you're headed in the right direction. It reminds me of a ski lesson I learned last year actually. When you're carving back and forth down the mountain, in order to have the smoothest, most confident run, don't look at the ground right in front you. Instead, cast your gaze ahead and look at the place you want to go. At our WOD workshop of defining success, we did just that. We really took a look at what success is to each of us, what our long-term goals were/are, as well as sharing experiences of times we really felt that success, and then examining what it was about that experience that made us feel successful. When you realize what makes you successful and feel successful, you can attain it again! We had a great showing of talented women with varied backgrounds, and all over the career experience spectrum, some of us just starting out, in the middle climbing the ladder, seasoned professionals, and even some gals making major career changes from what they had previously been doing. It was an enlightening and empowering night, and I know for one that sharing and hearing these experiences furthered my professional development as well.
